Social justice is predicated on the shared well-being of everyone. Everyone’s human rights are respected and protected. Everyone has equal opportunities. No artificial or social-constructed barriers should exist to hinder or stop the ability of any persons—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender non-conforming, disability, age, or migrant status—to live freely, healthily, and strong lives. All peoples should be able to share in the fruits of their labor, but also of society’s. This does not mean everyone is the same or have the same capacities. What’s common is that all people have capacities that must be allowed to flourish. Everyone must have a fighting chance at the life they want. No more systemic obstacles or discriminatory practices. When a nation values social justice and remains committed to equality, progress is always possible.
